I also posted this on the Suggestionos part but maybe you guys find value to this idea.

One thing that has not improved much in ECT is the amount of time it takes to enter products and options separately into the system. This is how I usually have to do it:
1. create my csv file with as much information as I can including picture names and upload to the cart.
2. create options for each product - 5 options per product.
3. open each product individually to apply these options, then while the product is open, apply additional sections
4. upload images using FTP.

here is an idea that shaved at least 30% of my data entry time and i'm sure you guys can probably take to another level (I will include a screenshot at below).

I opened the file called "incprods.php" and created an Iframe so that i can see the page called "adminprods.php" in the same page while i'm entering products. So this is how i do it now.

1. create my csv file and upload
2. instead of going to the product options administration section, i simply open the product and create the options on the same page, then as soon as the options are created, i can assign them to the product instantly and i'm done all in one screen.
4. upload pictures using FTP.

hope this helps make this great cart even better.

you can see a screenshot of the suggestion here:

Hi Ozzie,

You may find it far easier using these utilities here - http://www.ecom-mods.com/proddetail.php?prod=ECT-MOD-PHP-CSV_Opt_utility

Or use phpMyAdmin to create, upload and assign your options to products

thanks phil for taking a look - and i've looked at the mod you mentioned last night and I agree with you it will be a bit easier for me to maintain the site because i'm very familiar with the cart and hew it all works - however I still need to create the options using one file then upload the products using another file so we are still left with the same problem we started with - if i have 2 options per product and i create options for just 30 products, by the time i finish creating the 60 options i have forgotten what i called the first 10 options so when i'm assigning the options to the product i will need to be jumping back and forth and end up with a headache and probably many errors - Also my wife is the one taking over the administration and she wont go anywhere near phpMyadmin or even the spreadsheet seems a bit much for her. less computer savy people like her would prefer to use their friendly admin panel to do it. I still think that duplicate work should be reduced or eliminated if its at all possible.

thanks again for your suggestion - because it is probably the closest we are right now to reducing data entry time.

Add the product ID as a prefix in the working name of the optGrpWorkingName data column, you can then relate

Hi Phil thanks again for the imput, that is exactly what i do with the products that have product IDs - unfortunatelly many of my vendors don't use products ids so i have to make them up as i go along they are unique products and only stock one of each (this is the reason for using stock by options) and once i sell it, thats it it will never be in stock again so i have to delete the items sold and enter the new ones which takes me to the tripple effort proces of entering the new products in one place and the optios in another then relating them together (not fun) I'm not saying the system doesn't work, it works perfectly the way it was designed and combined with the two mods you mentioned it makes it easier but even with product ID's i dont think anyone can tell me that you are not doing the work 3 times once to create products, once to create the options and once to apply the options to the products.

please understand that i'm not putting down ECT, i'm merely pointing out an oportunity for improvement.
