ASP Search Engine Optimized URL's Mod
Due to the popular demand of the PHP version of the ECT SEO URL Add-on a new ASP Version is now available.
The ECT ASP Search Engine Optimized URL's Mod is an easy to install and easy to use mod which enables you to take advantage of the search engine optimized URL's without the need for creating hundreds, or possibly even thousands of static files to link too. URL's are rewritten to use static filenames such as fast-red-car_001.asp instead of something more generic such as proddetail.asp?prod=001
The mod works using the ISAPI Rewrite feature which is available on some Windows Servers. Before purchasing this mod you will want to verify with your host that they do support this functionality. If you are using ServeLink then this functionality is available.
You can view a working demonstration of the mod at:
http://www.ecthosting.com/pc-monitor_palmtop001.asp
The MOD takes approximately 10 minutes to install and only involves modifying one function in incfunctions.asp so very limited modifications are needed to the in regards to the core files.
You can get the new ASP Search Engine Optimized URL's MOD at:

What's the status of this mod and does it run on asp version 6.2.1 ? Looks like the forum post here has been dead for over 6 months |

Wow, this is exactly what I was wanting/asking about in another part of the forum.
Looks like this person or feature stalled in its tracks??? Anyone else have an add-on that will either use the product name for the URL or use the product name plus the item ID for the URL.
Just having an ID number is not very search engine friendly and tech said can't pull URL from the product name. And I don't want to make thousands of static pages as that defeats the purpose of having a dynamic template it would seem to me.
Anyone... I can't be the only one with this concern? |

Hi,
It uses the name of the product, not the ID. Although in some renditions I have modified it to use the ID with the name. Originally this was the default functionality to ensure there were no clashes with two products having the same name but because of requests I removed the ID from the URL but I have had some ask me to put it back in so products with the same name don't have issues.

Stew, can you provide the exact link for this product.
If I understand correctly?... when someone clicks from the site to the product details page they get the pName in the url and NOT the pID... correct.
If so that is what I am wanting. Please let me know where to see this on your site. This link does not work (as to the main product panel) http://www.ceditmx.com/ecommerce-templates-seo-url-mod-add-on-for-asp.html
and this link generates a 404 error http://www.ecthosting.com/pc-monitor_palmtop001.asp
which has/had me worried that something had happened with this product or you had gone...
Anyway, In other words:
Do not want - which is how it is now ...proddetail.asp?prod=mn-gbr&cat=28
What WANT ...proddetail.asp?prod=my-green-widget&cat=28
Vince gave me an include that took off the &cat=28 which I don't want either. So, can you help me:-) I am hoping you have the solution...
At the end of the day this is what: For example, I want the url to display ...proddetail.asp?prod=my-green-widget when a customer click on anything that will take them to the product detail page and done so dynamically as I don't want to make static pages for thousands of pIDs
I have ECT css .asp latest version so will it work for that?
Thanks! |

The new URL is here:
http://www.ceditmx.com/seo-url-mod-for-asp/
It works in the same way that the PHP version does as far as the URL's go. It uses the name of the product so URL's such as:
http://www.yoursite.com/proddetail.asp?prod=xyz
Become:
http://www.yoursite.com/your-product-name.asp
Sorry but I don't have a description on the product at the moment. I need to write one but I simply haven't had a chance.
Thank You,
Stewart Obert
