Hi anyone help in sorting a MOD to include VAT/TAX in all products. So when i put in £99.00 it works out the vat amount within that price, in stead of the way it works now.
Thanks

Hi
I can not do it for you but what you want to do is the following.
VAT = 20%
VAT at 20 % divide by 120 and times by 100 and this will give you the price less the VAT.
If your selling price is £99 99 / 120 x 100 = £82.5
Example to see the logic: If the VAT was 17.5% then you would divide by 117.5 and times by 100
Is this not something you can do on a spreadsheet or do you need your customers to see it?
Kind Regards Barry Smith

I have been looking at the Vat status as my company has recently become Vat registered and it seems to be a major omission to have the calculation shown above built into a simple tick box entry on the main settings enabling or disabling 'show prices as inc tax' with the code to do so built into the tick box.
This would save clients of ecommercetemplates a whole lot of headaches and frustration at having to export to CSV, import etc. The assumption that most people know how to use spreadsheets is wrong, they don't.
FYI I do know how to use spreadsheets, and your suggestions on how to convert are helpful but still, it cannot be that hard to add a main setting to allow clients to enter the price inc tax.

As a long standing eCommerce Templates customer and have been VAT registered for some time, I can say this is all taken care of for you if set up correctly.
Set up tax at country level. So UK at "20%" Set products that are not VATable as an exception in each product, an example is kids clothing, if you have any.
Then in your includes file (ASP or PHP) you can change
ssIncTax - to show the text you want, ie "Inc VAT" showtaxinclusive=2 - this will include VAT in the pricing by default.
The user manual will help somewhat.
OK?
It really is simple..

The point is being missed somewhat.
If a website starts off as non vat registered and it has hundreds of products that are priced as such.
Then some time later the business does well enough to go to Vat registration, there is nothing in EC to tell EC to now show those existing prices as including Vat.
I know some people will read this and think, but surely you need to ADD vat to the existing prices so they increase? Not all the time. Some clients want to absorb the Vat and display the prices as they are but tell EC that the prices ar now inclusive of Vat before setting the Vat rate.

Well in that case it's a once only price change which can be done with a csv upload. Approximately 5 - 10 minutes work.
For those people who don't know how to use a spread sheet it wouldn't really cost much to hire somebody to do it and it's not something that has to be done on a daily basis.

Thats my point, it should not take that much coding to have this as a setting, rather than messing about outside of EC.

OK, we had to do the same.. And set some products and non VAT, which it seems you don't need to do which is good..
As Phil says, this is a simple export of product info to a spreadsheet (Excel) - CSV format.
Calculate the base price, we lowered ours so that when VAT is added the prices were the same. Did that once, the copy and paste down the pricing column.
Upload the CSV.
Done..
The only slightly complicated element is to calculate the pricing.
EC is probably the most flexible product out there. Excel is probably the best to adjust the pricing in a one off way.

I have used EC on various websites for years now and I too think it is an excellent product.
My main point stands, not many people know how to use spreadsheets to calculate and convert, and with respect to those people, they are running a business which has purchased EC and it would not be a great coding task to add a simple setting in EC to remove the error prone method available now.
