Hi again, I may have missed information about 301 redirects integration in your template/s.
I have two sites I am looking to port over to this software and wonder how best to handle 301 redirects so I don't loose search placement. Do you have anything in your software.
Any suggestions in this regard. Also, what about 404s.
Thank you in advance, Don |

Hi David appreciate the link. Good information. I have read many articles about this but still have a few questions.
The link mostly focuses on Apache which if I understand correctly is for php...
I have since '97 been on .asp and now .aspx on Windows servers and so feel pretty comfortable with that. However, I have never had to worry about any redirect but will now when I update and make changes.
I understand from the link and other links from there that for Windows I need an URL Rewrite module for IIS.
I think I can figure out how to do the rewrites. But I am not sure is this something on the hosting side and not the ecommerce template. In other words, do I need to ask the hosting if they already have this module or how to access it to do the rewrites. As you can tell I am clueless here about how to access this file or where it lives.
On another note: I see I need to select the .asp or the .php but I am afraid that if I select .php I will get totally lost. Any thoughts about this decision. Thanks! |

The IIS URL Rewriter module is something your host will have installed, or not, as the case may be, and so isn't anything that you would work with directly. If it is installed (we have it) then you'd just be adding old url:new url pairs in a list into your web.config file in the root according to a simple formula.

Wow, Peter that really helped a lot the way you outlined specifics.
OK, I have not talked to a hosting company yet (looking for a new one with the change to ECT) and see that ECT has a few noted on their site. I assume customers have had good experiences with those companies? Or does ECT host themselves - it didn't seem like it from what I have found so far?
What host are you using that already has this so I can do what you outline here which sounds simple enough. Thanks again:-)
