Our inventory contains products that are taxable and some of them that are not. An example is food versus cookware. I understand that tax percentages can be added for individual products in the product details. However, I would like to input the correct sales tax in the states section via the CMS, and then have a tax on/off switch on the products that need to be taxed. Now taxable products would automatically follow the tax rates setup in the states section.

Hi

You can make products state / country tax exempt in the product admin page - that can be done in the quick entry feature on the left hand side of the product listing page, or on the right hand side of the particular product page, under "Exemptions".

We just receive additional information. Consider the following example:
TEXAS – STATE RATE: 6.25%
Food and food ingredients – non-taxable
Dietary supplements- non-taxable
Essential oils - non-taxable
Shipping and handling tax is determined by products ordered

TENNESEE – STATE RATE: 7.00%
Food and food ingredients – taxed at the reduced food rate of 5.5% (state only)
Dietary supplements- taxable
Essential Oils-nontaxable
Shipping and handling – taxable

We need additional mapping between state and categories, which may not be grouped the same way as on the menu.

I have a product no.3 to sale in Texas, pulling information from db should give me all the information to assess correct tax info. Can you let me know if you support this feature or what modification will allow me to do this?

Hi

The cart doesn't do different calculation on States taxes / products like that I'm afraid. You could try a post in the Mods forum below to see if anyone has done anything similar but I think it might be quite tricky.

I have a similar yet different situation.

Clients must login to order, and their account is made tax-exempt through their login account credentials.

BUT there are select products for which the state tax (a single state at this point) WOULD need to be applied.

Is that possible?

If not, any suggestions on a mod developer who could help?

Hi Tim, there isn't a feature for that you may want to contact one of the third party developers listed here http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/developers.asp
