I changed all my product pages to statics sometime ago and setup the "redirecttostatic=TRUE" in the includes.asp.
This works great for all the categories except the "Home Categories" of which I have four. (These are the categories which spawn categories.)

If you visit one of my old URL's for my home category "CCTV Cameras"
you will notice it does not redirect.

www.dtsdigitalcctv[dot]co.uk/products.asp?cat=16

I suspect it is because it was created with a "products.asp" page rather than a "Category.asp" page. I did this because I wanted the home categories to show products instead of categories.

Is it possible to setup a 301 redirect so the old URL's redirect to the home categories.

Hi

I'm no expert in redirects so it might be best to wait til a developer comes along as it's something you really don't want to get wrong.

Thanks Andy,

Do you have anyone in mind who could provide a mod for this?

Hi, following this with great interest. As a company who will be moving a working site to the ECT site when ready there will be a huge need for 301 redirect.

As part of my pre-research it sounded like 301 should work fine with ECT. I am however surprised the ECT isn't more simple for helping or having the plug in programming to do the 301's. The host/site I use now has that as part of the canned template/program/hosting.

Sure I'm not alone but finding out 301 and 404 information for integration with ECT stores for those in need seems a little vague and hard to find specifics about?

Long winded way to say would be nice if ECT would have more help in this regard. May even help sales if those wanting to migrate sites to ECT knew that the 301 aspect wasn't fuzzy. IMHO

Any thoughts about how to approach this... I am getting to this point now in the process. .asp and CSS template. Thanks!

I came across this on a search. Have not had time to look further into it tonight. Sounds like a start?

http://www.ceditmx.com/ecommerce-templates-301-redirect-add-on/

Can any of the admins expand a bit on this and I assume it will work for .asp ECT or is this just for those with .php

I do recall that .php has or uses a different file/method for compiling the 301's so would this work for .asp ??? Thanks

I would try contacting the company directly for information about this add on but it does look like it could be PHP only.

Hmm, any further information that would be helpful for those using ECT for .asp?

I was wondering: the input field for example on the product or category in admin has the field for Static url.

Is that entry/funcion sort of a redirect. What I mean is when entering a static url in that field does it, in essence, trigger a redirect from the dynamic path to the static path? which is also true in .asp

And if this is true? then I wonder how come the redirect function that is alredy there - so to speack - for those aspects couldn't be expanded to a page or admin function for redirect that the merchant (me) could usue/populate with the old url/new url for what we need to redirect the old web pages to the new web pages when migrating sites to ECT.

As mentioned, so far finding out how to do this is like walking through the forest in the dark. I did verify that my server host has Mod rewite for IIS but outsideof knowing that I am clueless about the actual michanics of acutall doing it - which I need to start doing soon.

Any ECT third party 301 for .asp ??? How to's ??? specific to working with ECT...

Hi the has static page or url optional will redirect the internal dynamic url to the static url defined. It will not redirect urls that are in the search engine index for that you need to do a re-direct at the server level to say old site url x is assoicated with site new url y. Check with your host they maybe able to help you with that.
