A question for you

If you dont use the descriptive page titles the products.php, categories.php and the proddetail.php uses the ?prod=123 prduct code or ?cat=123 the category code to pull the details to the page from the database

With the descriptive page title it now has a more google friendly page name such as: /products/product-name

This is great

However I am assuming that the search engine friendly name is redirected from the proddetail.php?prod=123 - would this be coorrect?

If it is the case and its redirected how can I reduce the amount of iunstances of redirects to keep the path as clean as possible for the search engines

Sorry if I a not making the question plain but its something that has come up when I was looking at the seo of a site for a client

Hi Richard

It's a rewrite rather than a redirect. It would only be a redirect if the search engine had already indexed the old format of the URL and then they would be redirected via a 310 to the new page URL.

I was concerned as I was told by the client an seo report claimed it was a 301 redirect not a rewrite

Given its a rewrite - then it will update off google :)
