I have my Product Inventory in an Excel file, as well as a CSV file.

All my product inventory is assigned categories in this file. Additionally, all my product inventory is assigned multiple categories.

My Categories in this separate file matches the names of my categories exactly word for word, space for space, etc...

I have thousands of products that I am attempting to assign the categories using a script, macro, or VB, which should be fairly simple.

I will be importing this data directly into the ECT database tables (vsproducts.mdb).

The Products table has a field called (pSection) this is where it looks like the initial category is selected. However I cant seem to find a Table or Fields where the ADDITIONAL Sections would be in the Database in order to automatically assign my additional categories.

Thanks
J

That's the multisections table You might also want to look into the CSV utilities here http://dlss.ca/products.asp?cat=ASP+Admin and see if they meet your needs, to avoid getting into a pickle with direct database edits.

In my Additional_Section_IDs Field I am showing a number of pID numbers showing 000,000,000,000 up to fourteen of these triple zeros as an additional section id number.

I do not have any 000 as a Category/Section ID or Additional Section Id Number.

Is this some random generated number when using the Additional Sections?

Thanks

As per the email I sent you earlier, if you are trying to use Excel to manipulate the CSV it can become troublesome with number columns. It tries to use them as Scientific notation which will mess you up. I suggest try using a better CSV editor for the data. I use CSVED.

Hi Mike,

So are you saying that these triple zeros I am getting don't exist?

I understand you don't like Excel or it doesn't work? or?

But is this (Excel) issue causing these triple zeros to display when none should exist?

Thanks

Download Open Office (free) and use their spreadsheet program. It will not alter the CSV file like Excel.
