We work with fullfillment partners and thus use the dropshipper option. This works great but since a couple of months old orders that are already processed and shipped are unexpectedly authourized again and thus our dropshipper receives a new e-mail suggesting there is a new order.

When we look at these orders the status is set back from shipped or completed to 'authorized'. Any information we entered in the Status Info field is still there. So it seems only the status is changed and somehow the authorization procedure is called again which causes the e-mail to be sent to our dropshipper and sometimes to us as shopowner as well. We did not get any complaints from customers, so apparently only the dropshipper and we as shopowner receive these e-mails.

Example:
ordered at May 22 at 07:37, mail received/sent
later that day, same order and mail sent at 15:28

Have you seen such behaviour before and can there be a cause?

Hi Jaap

I haven't seen anything like that reported. Is this a custom set up or the regular ECT feature?

We have some add-ons, but not for sending mails with order confirmations.

The only non standard code is that we use a custom payment processor to allow for the Dutch iDeal bankpayments. But that has been working fine for many years. And if this part might contain an error I would expect all iDeal payments to have double confirmation e-mails.

Other sample is even more strange as the mails span several days.

Order at May 13, mail received/sent at 13:59
later at May 18, mail received/sent at 19:33

Does this only happen with ideal payments?

What about the timestamp on the status change.
Have you looked at that?
We had an issue last year where orders randomly moved but it's quit and I believe it was related to some issue with Paypal.

@Andy: as far as I can see it only happens with iDeal payments, but only just once in a while, not with every iDeal payment. And Stripe (creditcard) and PayPal are not so common over here so iDeal is the mayority of payments we get.

One of the clues I have is that maybe iDeal calls the OK (thanks.asp) URL for a second time. For example when the bank clears a transaction. But date and times of the second e-mails do not match with the logged events in the iDeal payments. And we use the simple iDeal system that should actually only call the OK Url once. Will have to check the documentation of iDeal to see if this maybe is changed. But remains the fact it only happens once in a while and not with all iDeal transactions.

@DBDave: Did not have a look at this timestamp. Will do when it occurs again. Great tip. Did you manage to find out what caused the problem?

I believe David's issue was PayPal IPN related. Were you able to find anything in the iDeal documentation or possibly from the developer who set it up for you?
