After my upgrade to 7.0 I lost the info that in in the avs / cvv area for paypal payments. this is extremely helpful info in weeding out issues. Can you help me get it back.

I just upgraded the other day and it started right after it.
I believe it was 6.9, but I emailed my web guy to confirm with him.

I originally thought it was just paypal express, but its random. this is todays orders,

I have tested on my demo store and the codes show fine on my test orders - are you sure this is something that changed after updating and that nothing has changed in your PayPal account settings?

I haven't change anything in the last week except upgrading the cart. And yes it worked previously. I updated the cart on the 8th and thats when the problems started. See below.

It seems that from the screen shot there, some orders are showing AVS / CVV for PayPal Express and others aren't. Can you see any kind of pattern there, for example do you know if they paid via their Paypal account or credit card? I've looked through PayPal settings and can't find anywhere to turn the feature on or off so it should be automatic.

I don't believe PayPal will tell me if they used a credit card or their PayPal money balance. The only pattern I see is that all credit card transactions show but not all the PayPal transactions.

If you set this parameter in your includes.php file...
$debugxmlemails=TRUE;
...then you should get an email each time the cURL function is called to communicate with PayPal. Then could you wait till you get a transaction without the AVS and send the relevant emails to me at vince AT ecommercetemplates DOT com

I got the details just fine and those are the XML Debug emails I need. However I need them for an order where the AVS and CVV information is missing and which illustrate the problem we have, but for this order (100448820) the AVS and CVV are both "Y". You can find the customer name by searching in the email text for FirstName or LastName.
