Pre-sales questions only

Hello,

Is there a way to have customers get back to the exact spot on the page that they were at before they clicked on a product detail page?
Right now, when a customer clicks to view a product, and then goes back to the main product listings, they are taken back to the very top of the page. This can be very annoying when looking through many products in a category.

Is this an issue that can be fixed? or is this just a browser issue?

thanks

Hi there isn't a feature to take the customer back to the item they were viewing on the product listing page. Please feel free to post it in our suggestions forum.

You can add a link on the product details page -

<a href="javascript:history.back()"> Go Back</a>

You could also use an image instead of text if you prefer.

cheers

Hi Sinbad,

Since this question over a year and a half ago...
has there been an update to get the customer back to the area on the page that they were viewing after looking at the detail page of a product?

I see on your web shops that it is working that way.

I currently am using version 6.5.6.

Thanks

What we did in Version 6.7 was introduce the Quick Buy button so the customer doesn't need to leave the product listing page. There's an example of it here

Right I see that. I also see that if I do click on the details tab and then hit the back button, I'm taken back to where I was on the product listing page originally. I don't have to try and find my place where I was.

On my site vs 6.5.6, if they click to see the product detail, when they hit the back button, they are taken all the way back up to the top of the product listing page and have to navigate back down to find where they were at.

Is this what you fixed in later updater versions?

I wasn't aware that had changed to be honest but you can check on our other demo store here www.ectdemostore.com/products.asp

Hi Andy,

Okay, can you have a look at one of my site categories?

say finehomedisplays.com/glassdomes.asp

scroll down to the bottom of the page and then select a product to view, then view the detail page, then click the back button.
It takes you all the way back up to the top of the previous page, getting you lost as to where you just were and having to navigate all the way back down again.

Your test site does not do this. It takes you back to exactly where you were before viewing the details of the product.
So that's why I'm wondering if this was fixed in an update in a later version.

SOLUTION FOUND. The pages contain the code
<body onLoad="document.forms.staticsearch.stext.focus()>"
as well as "autofocus" in the search box. These two statements forced the page to load focused on the top regardless where you clicked when you scrolled down to a product. Anyone having a similar "back button" issue needs to remove any take that forces a "focus."
