Hi, customers are not getting completed orders or payment verification on my thanks.php page. They get this notice: "There was a timeout waiting for confirmation from the payment server. Please contact our customer service email for details about the status of your order."

I have contacted PayPal and they claim everything on their end is working properly. I do have IPNs enabled. Please help. Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob

We have had reports of problems from godaddy users in the last couple of weeks, who are you hosting with?

Go Daddy. I've called them, and they said everything is working on their end. Are they just giving me a line?

Mercy, so much assuming godaddy. I am hosting on godaddy, both servers, ect sites, and I use paypal with NO issues at all, ... perhaps it is a settings issue or the paypal option being used?

I have this same problem quite often. First time Paypal said it was not their problem. Second time, Paypal admitted to me that they had a problem that was affecting several users with this same problem and said they would email me when the problem is fixed. That was about 4 weeks ago, no email.
It still happens from time to time. Usually when this happens, you'll also notice the confirmation email from Paypal being as much as an hour later than the order placement time.

I wish the ECT guys could find a work-around for this but I'm not sure how that would be implemented.

I don't think this is a godaddy issue but I have never been happier after getting away from Godaddy. Used them for ~10 years. Every service call was the same: "Nothing wrong with our servers - problem must be *your* website software"... and then the problem magically fixes itself right after the call completion.

Could anything in this link be the answer to this situation? Or completely unrelated?

In the last two weeks every user we have seen with IPN issues has been on Godaddy servers eg https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=108969&whichpage=2 - or https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=109105 when you made the same comment earlier I said that not everyone's set up at Godaddy is the same and which is probably why you are not seeing any problems. Considering all the users reporting IPN issues are Godaddy users I think it's a fair question to ask when the IPN problem comes up, don't you?

I see this error occasionally as well, hosted with ServeLink.

A few months ago, I had been having similar problems and I made some changes and the problem went away.
In the last few weeks, we are getting lots of emails and calls with this same issue again.
It's very frustrating and I suppose it's a Paypal issue at this point.
.asp version and servelink host.

Andy, yes...its fair to ask... but it is also notable that I use ect, 3 paypal options, newer cpanel on two plans and older hosting panel on two plans with no issues for any of the combinations. I have been unable thus far (knock on wood) to duplicate those issues (trying to find it, to avoid it). Thats why I think it is something other than a godaddy issue. Perhaps its just that the majority of users are hosted on godaddy since it is one of the largest in the world. Either way, I know you guys are awesome and will find the issue!

Thank you Rusty and Dave for noting the same issue happening on servelink.

Also, since this issue is occuring while others are on the same hosting as me... I wonder if it has to do with having higher volume sales than me? Both mine and my clients sales are local and therefor less volume. Perhaps paypal or godaddy are limiting traffic/bandwidth? Im not sure how that works but worth checking?

FYI -- same issues but using Servelink.
Volume from my site doesn't seem to be the issue. Can happen in both slow and busy times. But it is tough to say what is and isn't a busy time for Paypal.
It is very unpredictable. Can happen several times a day and then nothing for a week. I know it won't happen this week - I'm shut down for vacation for a week ... hooray!!

If it's an intermittent problem it's less likely to be a general server problem. My understanding is that it's not intermittent for the OP.
