Hi All,

My first post here. Please be nice to me.

I ship two kinds of products

1) A kit that does not weigh much but is in a large box. I need a method to either factor in the dimensions of the package or a way to enter a set shipping price for each product.

2) A solvent that requires a $32.00 upcharge per order. Does not matter how much they order, they get dinged by FedEX for the the Dangerous Goods charge. Still need to calculate weight charges based on quantity ordered.

The way I look at it is that having Set Prices for Shipping in conjunction with a code tweak that checks if a $32.00 Charge needs to be tacked on would do the trick.

Does anybody have an thoughts that might help get me started towards a solution?

Or, I could code this myself, (maybe), but would need advice on where to make changes. Seems like a few added fields in DB, a few tweaks to the Products Administration page and a, if then check on the shopping cart page might do the trick. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome.
I don't think you need any custom coding.
I think you can use the built in features to meet your needs.

Is this one item the only one that you need to add that (or any) handling fee to?
If so, you can set the handling fee and then mark all products handling exempt except this one.

Do they both have the same $32.00 fee?
Only applied once on the whole order?

Only one per order and only if the order includes a solvent.

If they only order hardware, no to up charge

If the buy 1 liter of solvent $32 upcharge

If they buy 10 liters of solvent $32 upchare

Thanks for help

Ok then. I think this should work for you.
In your admin "main settings" setup your $32.00 handling charge there.

Then on all products except the two that have the handling charge, select "handling exempt" for those products.
If you have quite a few products, you can do this quickly with the "quick entry" feature there.

In the product description of the products that have that fee, you should emphasize that an additional handling fee will be added at checkout.

Let us know how that works for you.
