Hi, after repeated database connection errors today - something that our web host says could be related to issues with their 'MariaDB' service - we saw errors in our Admin screens and then were locked out of all primary and secondary logins.

Repeated attempts to reset the password using 'password.php' have failed - we only get the "Login Disabled: (Flood Control. Please wait 5 seconds between login attempts)" error. We've tried this in the same browser window used to run password reset, using an incognito browser session to eliminate any cache issues, etc., without success.

1. Am I right that we should always ignore the long 'The password is:' string on the 'password.php' page, enter a New Password of our choice, and keep trying the new password?

2. We don't use RECAPTCHA on our site; is there any need to click the "Click to remove RECAPTHA" button? Is there any harm if we've done so?

Thanks in advance for letting us know any workarounds as soon as you can.

Hi Paul

What you can do is open password.php, enter a new password and then without closing the browser go to yoursite.com/vsadmin/admin.php as a cookie will have been set so you can enter. Delete password.php when you are done.

Andy, when reset the password and then enter "https://www.oursite.com/vsadmin/admin.php" this seems to redirect us back to /login.php (no secret key string in the address bar), with the same Login Disabled message.

Thanks in advance for suggesting other workarounds. This is much appreciated.

Note that we're also seeing the error message:

Warning: mysqli_result::free_result(): Couldn't fetch mysqli_result in /var/www/vhosts/cloghog.com/httpdocs/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php on line 1747

...three times at the top of that "vsadmin/login.php" page that appears when we enter "https://www.oursite.com/vsadmin/admin.php" in the browser address bar.

There aren't any other workarounds - would be a bit dangerous security-wise if there were. I don't think there have been any changes to this set up since recaptcha was introduced and that can be ignored if you're not using it. Have you tried a different browser for example?

Andy, yes, we tried multiple browsers right away, no change in result. We're still locked out.

We're definitely at the point where web host issues are diminishing revenue. Not good.

I'm having the same error issues. The log in on the control panel error and the mysqli error. I'm also a Servelink customer.

I was wondering if these reports were related. Has anyone put a support ticket in with servelink?

Andy, yes, we've had a support ticket open at ServeLink since 6:20 AM Pacific time today 11/14/2018.

I'm guessing that their personnel are at work on the issue because our website seems to be cycling from unavailable, to frequent connection errors, to less frequent errors, then back to unavailable; perhaps they're checking and restarting services.

I've also submitted a ticket. This was a response I just got: [red]there seems to be an intermittent problem with the database server. We are working on it as top priority.[/red]

Hopefully, it will get resolved soon because I have customers waiting to place orders.

Andy, BTW, with so many of us anxiously waiting to use our password reset file to regain access, am I right that it's a good idea to rename 'password.php' to something more unique like '123hippopotamus.php' and then accessing it as 'mywebsite/123hippopotamus.php' to reduce the odds of unauthorized access while we wait for the web host to resolve the issues?

Normally you would use it and delete it but you can rename it while waiting.

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY coID' at line 1
Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function fetch_assoc() on boolean in /var/www/vhosts/parkercasedepot.com/httpdocs/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php:2180 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/vhosts/parkercasedepot.com/httpdocs/vsadmin/inc/inccart.php(6000): ect_fetch_assoc(false) #1 /var/www/vhosts/parkercasedepot.com/httpdocs/cart.php(97): include('/var/www/vhosts...') #2 {main} thrown in /var/www/vhosts/parkercasedepot.com/httpdocs/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php on line 2180

Very frustrating since I was looking at syntax etc. and trying to fix it only to find it was a server problem, (I knew something was wrong)I had started my ticket 11/7.
I received a lecture on passwords.

I really need to figure this out as I may be losing sales.

Folks, if you're a ServeLink customer and were able to regain access to your cart Admin pages after being locked out today, please let us know the exact steps taken.

For what it's worth, ServeLink support just replied to our ticket as follows, seemingly to say there's nothing further they can do to help at this point.

We're still unable to restore access using 'password.php', only seeing the Login Disabled: (Flood Control. Please wait 5 seconds between login attempts) superimposed with repeated error messages at the top of the screen:

Warning: mysqli_result::free_result(): Couldn't fetch mysqli_result in /var/www/vhosts/cloghog.com/httpdocs/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php on line 1747

Thanks in advance for providing details of the steps taken if you were able to restore access.

It's been a rough day for sales.

===========
Hi there

There isn't really any workaround beyond extracting the data directly using phpMyAdmin or something like that. Or just keep trying as it does seem to be intermittent.

Folks, after repeatedly changing our primary username's password with the 'password.php' file and attempting to login to the Admin pages without success, we were finally able to login using our standard 'vsadmin/login.php' page (including our configured login key).

The login success occurred using our original password for that primary username, after restoring that original password with 'password.php'.

However, once the cart Admin page opened there were repeated MySQL warnings superimposed over the page, as before, presumably because of issues at the web host.

At least now it seems likely that we can get back onto our Admin screens once the web host fixes whatever is causing those warnings.

Don't forget to delete 'password.php' from your server!

I hope this helps.

Hi Paul

Thanks for keeping everyone informed, it must have been quite stressful but is everything now working as it should do?

Andy,

1. This morning (11/15/2018, 4:00 AM Pacific time) the website pages and Admin pages seem to be working normally.

Our adminorders page shows incorrect times for orders placed yesterday afternoon (11/14); hopefully the web host has any server time issues resolved now.

There is no confirmation of status or description of the cause yet from our web host trouble ticketing system.

2. Having tried the 'password.php' reset file numerous times yesterday with uncertain results because of issues at the web host:

- Is it correct that 'password.php' can only reset the password of an existing username, but will not create a new username if you enter one?

- Does the long Password string generated at the top of the page when you enter a password serve any purpose? If so, how to use it?

Thanks for confirming this.

3. ETA: anyone using Google Merchant feeds / AdWords Shopping campaigns might check their Merchant feed product status and AdWords shopping Products tabs right away; Google crawled the broken website on 11/14, found data mismatches, and shut down our Shopping ads. We're re-fetching our product feed now in Google Merchant Center in hopes that Google will re-crawl and resume our advertising; it can sometimes take Google a few days to reinstate Disapproved products so we're expecting more revenue loss in the meantime. :-(

Hi Paul

It will only reset an existing account.

What you see there won't help to view the password and the password is encypted in the database. You are seeing the encyption.
