I suppose while Im asking dumb questions.. I should ask some more...

I am having difficulties understanding the difference between Options and Attributes and the Custom Fields 1-3.

Website I am working on deals with truck parts.
I use options for selection.
Part Selection
(New, Used and Rebuilt)
Part Location
(Drivers Side, Passenger Side)
Part Grade
(Average, Good, Better, Best)
Additional Services
(Rebuild, Sandblast Bodywork & Prime)
My question for Options is can I.
---Select an option then have another option appear? IE, If a customer selects a NEW part as an option, then I would not need to have the Options, "Part Grade" or "Additional Services" show. I only want them to show if a customer selects a used part.

As I understand Attributes these are for additional Search Features? Is this correct?
I am using Attributes for Year, Make and Model.
I havent played around enough with the extended search feature to determine how I need to add a range of years that a particular part fits. IE. 1932-56 OR 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, and so on. I tend to see things and think backwards at times so I want to make sure I am using the attributes function correctly.

The Custom fields 1-3 I thought were related to attributes? But the way they are laid out I'm not sure what their purpose is and or how to use them?

Thanks ahead of time... apologies for the foolish questions.

Eerything you mention sounds more like attributes to me than options.

Options are like I sell a t-shirt in multiple colors and sizes.
I have red, green, blue, white.
I would setup options in those colors and assign that option to my t-shit product.

Unless you offer an alternator in all three way, new, used, rebuilt - I don't think you want that as an option.
With attributes you create an attribute group - maybe condition.
Then in that group you have three attributes - New - Used - Rebuilt.

Then you assign on of those attributes to each product. Now a customer would be able to click the attribute - New to see only new products (products you have assigned the "new" attribute to).

attributes - https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/ecommplus/help.asp#searcr

Thanks Dave,

I do have both.

I think what I needed to verify was that Options are used for choosing what is available to purchase.

And Attributes are for searching.

Just needed to check and verify this is correct.

Thanks

I think that sums it up.
