Hi ECT team, I am running Ecommerce Plus PHP v7.0.4
Try this ... Having created a Customer Account and entered an Address, login and go to clientlogin.php
Now, Edit Address and notice that:

>> the "State" previously entered has changed itself back to the 1st alphabetical State listed in the drop-down list.

Minor issue I am sure you can fix easy in due course.
Regards,

Gary

Hi Gary

I can't recreate that here. Can you check these steps to make sure they are the same as what you were trying.

Create a new account via the pop-up on clientlogin.php
Go to the address section in clientlogin.php and enter an address
Save and go back, click on edit for address and check the State drop down.

Thanks for checking Patrick, I was wondering if it was a caching issue.

Appreciate those replies, thank you.
So it looks like the issue must be related to something I did ... which was ... SHIPPING ADMIN => States => Edit States

Original State Names for Australia:

Edited and abbreviated to:

Thinking that was a good idea

As a consequence:
(1) On clientlogin.php, Edit Address results in State Name reverts to 1st State in list.
(2) On cart.php (having added item to cart) at Checkout Step 2, Edit Address results in State Name remaining exactly as entered; no problem (?)

Creating a new account with address other than Australia, using default State Names:
> The original State Name selected is retained when editing address on both clientlogin.php and cart.php pages; no problem.

Upon changing Australian State Names back to the default entries:
> The original State Name selected is retained when editing address on both clientlogin.php and cart.php pages; no problem.

Conclusion: Changing any State Names is a bad idea. Or perhaps there is a fix for this ?

Regards,

Gary

Hi Gary
Maybe there should be a way to handle edited state names, but would the parameter...
$usestateabbreviation=TRUE;
...be a better choice here?

Hi Vince,
I presume you are suggesting that all State Names in the ECT dbase would be updated so that we have:
1) Full state name, as they are now, and also
2) Short abbreviated state name.
And if we wanted to use option (2), we add $usestateabbreviation=“TRUE” to includes.php

That sounds really good.
Although I guess some Users still do require the option to be able to Edit or Add state names ?

Also, I presume that all Freight Carrier integrations rely on the destination ZIP code / Postcode to calculate the freight charge; never the state name ?

You will know best.

Vince can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the State name is checked by the online carriers, and it will be used for price / weight based shipping if the zones are split into states.

Both the state name in longhand and the state abbreviation are held in the database at present so there is no real need to edit the state names as the abbreviation is already there. Some carriers like UPS do a check on the state name in some circumstances like when using negotiated rates, but normally the zip code is used. With weight / price based shipping it is the the state you are shipping to is matched on the table index rather than the name or abbreviation so it's not really important there.
