I decided to try Amazon Pay again. But I find it strange that in ECT, it appears a step after the initial cart page where Paypal Express appears.

I think Amazon Pay should show up at the same time as Paypal Express and before address entry fields are presented (a heat map test shows some people are filling out their address, and then clicking the Amazon Pay button on my site).

Am I simply missing a parameter to move this to a more appropriate step in the checkout process?
I think the old argument was that it had to be at a step where the cart was HTTPS. But I think we are all HTTPS site-wide all the time now.

There is no parameter I'm afraid but I'll have a look and see what the possibilities are of moving the button when I get a chance.

Hoping to bump this topic and be the catalyst for an improvement in 7.1.9.

I did some user testing. This Amazon Pay on the second step instead of first where Paypal Express resides is causing confusion. About a quarter of users try to fill out their address before clicking the Amazon Pay button.

This means, they may enter an address in which they intend delivery, but is not the Amazon address that will be returned with the order info to me.

Of course, the whole point of Amazon Pay is to use addresses and payment details that are already established. So we are confusing and defeating that purpose for some customers.

I agree. I think the Amazon Pay Button should appear next to the PayPal Button.
I contacted Amazon and they said to move the button, just add the code to the page you want it to appear on.....
How can I do that?

Is it safe to install the whole new Beta now? Or is there just a piece of the code we can extract for the Amazon pay button?

The change for this is in the inccart.php file and you can just update the inccart.php.
