My client is having issues with his two computers when trying to edit products. Certain browsers are either kicking him out occasionally, making him constantly log back in - or doing things like all of the fonts in the editor are random bold fonts that they did not set up - strange random things like that.

Some things happen on their home computer and then other things happen on their work computer. They have tried Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and IE - all with different issues.

They sent me a screenshot of one of the problems (it is kicking them out and making them log back in whenever they try to add a new photo to a product) and I noticed that the URL is showing that it is not secure. When I login from my system it always shows that it is secure. Here is link to the screenshot they sent me: https://www.alkydigger.net/2020%20Screenshot/Login.jpg

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these issues? I'd like to start with why his computer is showing a non secure site.

Thanks.

In the admin under Main Settings, are both the Store URL and https URL set to https and, do they both read the same, meaning with/without "www"?

The store URL was set to http://www.alkydigger.net/ and the HTTPS Store URL was set to https://www.alkydigger.net

Should I change that to something else?

One thing I should mention - the site is built on alkydigger.net - and that forwards to alkydigger.com -- is their some other setting I should be looking at as well? On my system when I login, it shows https on all pages of the site and also all pages of the admin. Why would it be different on my system?

Hi Kelly

In the admin both URL's should be https. If your website is reached without the www then the full URL should be https://domainname.com. Yours is reached using the www so both the URL's in the admin should be https://www.domainname.com

I'm not sure where you are coming from in when you say One thing I should mention - the site is built on alkydigger.net - and that forwards to alkydigger.com When I try to access the .com I get this in FireFox Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead, Opera refuses to load the site, Edge & Chrome show Your connection isn't private. Loading alkydigger.net isn't redirecting to .com but loads .net

All the ECT site's I setup and look after are all https and none www and work without any issues.

More issues on one of their computers - using Firefox, the Facebook icons have disappeared from the product social media section. It shows "Tweet", "Save" (Pinterest), "Email Friend", and "Contact Us". When I try it from my computer, I see both of the Facebook icons right where they should be. I've tried with two different computers,my laptop, and my phone and I can't replicate the problem he is having. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

Is it possible that he's already shared this particular product on Facebook? I did check and he is actually logged into his Facebook page with that browser on that computer - I thought maybe it wouldn't show the social media icons for any social media that he wasn't linked into. I'm racking my brain, but I can't figure out what might be causing these issues.

Another problem - when they are in the admin and creating a new invoice, they attempt to calculate shipping and they get a popup which says at the top "Error, couldn't find cart." and then in the middle of the popup it says: "Session Timed Out. Please close this window and click "Calculate" again.

They are getting really frustrated with these issues. Can anyone help?

If you can see it then the issue is a local one, ie it's almost certainly related to their computer. This doesn't sound like a website / hosting issue at all. Ask your client to view their site via a different browser which never saves history / cookies, a browser that's set to always clear the full history/ bookmarks/ cache & cookies every time the browser is closed.

I always keep two browsers that clear full history every time it's shut down, mainly for the purpose of checking webpage & CSS.updates. I've been up too many garden paths chasing issues that really do not exist due to aggressive caching, usually Google Chrome

I agree that it seems to be a computer issue and that's what I've been telling my client.

They have tried on multiple browsers - Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and IE -- each browser is giving them different problems.

I really suspect that it is something with their computer, a setting, a virus, something that is causing these odd issue. None of the other computers at their office are having any of these issues I'm just trying to come up with something that they can check or something they can tell a potential computer repair tech to start to look at.

Any ideas?

First and foremost have they cleared their full cache? If not then trying to diagnose something like this really is a waste of time.

Can you hook up remotely using a programme like TeamViewer? The client will need that on their machine(s) also then you can see exactly where things are at. That programme has saved me many a trip to a clients place, not to mention frustration, and is as good as being sat with them.
