Has anyone got any ideas on how best to display a free gift with order, and an image of the free gift too, which can be quickly enable or disabled from admin across all or a number of products in one brand?

What's the requirement to get the gift?
If it's the purchase of a certain product, you can use product options to do that.

It might be various reasons, if they order over a certain value, or order anything from a particular brand, or if they order more than one item from a brand etc

Hi Jason, this does come up from time to time and I'm sure there is likely a thread in the suggestions forum.
You might search and if you find one, add your request there.
There is no built in feature to handle that.
For now, you can probably add a message to the website and manually add the gift to the order.
