I'm trying to set up a discount on specific products, in this instance, any product that includes the word "pumpkin" in the title, descriptions, key words. If I do a search as if I were a customer, I get a broader range of products than if I do a search of products in the admin panel where I'm trying to identify which products to assign the discount to.

Also in admin, I can check the box to search for the word 'pumpkin' in the long description, but as soon as I initiate the search, the long description box unchecks itself. This causes a problem because when it is unchecked I get 3 pages of products, but when checked, I get 5 pages of products. I can't access those last 2 pages because when I click to go to the next page, the long description box unchecks itself and I'm back to 3 pages. Is there something I can do to correct this? I really don't want to have to compares the lists of 400-500 products to individually assign the discount to ones missed.

Finally, is it possible to search on the product keywords in admin?

Yes, that does indeed seem to be the case but I've fixed it now and added the fix to the incprods.php script of both the updaters.

This isn't possible I'm afraid and I figure this is why you are seeing the difference in results as the search page wills earch the keywords.

But saying that it does seem like a good (and quick) addition so I've done this now and added the changes to the incprods.php file in the v7.4 updater. If you're on v7.3 you can use the incprods.php from v7.4 just fine.

Thanks so much! I overwrote the incprods.php with the new one and seems to be working now. Makes my life so much easier!
