We ship some items that require HazMat / Dangerous Goods shipping from UPS / FedEx.
How can we setup ECT to know which items are HazMat and to add a $48 fee to the order to cover the extra cost?
Any suggestions or dev contacts are appreciated!

Hi, maybe I'm not fully understanding the situation, but could you just add the fee to the product price?

Thanks,
David

There is a $48 fee per box that is shipped HazMat, so they can buy 1 or 10 and only have to pay $48.

Ok, this can be done with custom coding of course, but I do see another way to do this - as long as you are not currently using the handling fee built in to the admin.
If that's the case, then just go into the admin>main settings and set the handling fee there to $48.00 and then go into the products that do not have this HAZMAT fee, and mark all of them handling exempt.
To make that part fast, just use the quick entry feature there on the left when you list all products.

Thanks,
David

Anyone know of someone who could help code this?
We already use the Handling for CC fees.

There is actually a handling charge for the payment processors so why not use the payment processor handling for the CC fees and then implement Dave's suggestion?

@vince That is a great suggestion and almost works.

When someone selects "Pickup from store" they still get charged the $48 handling fee.

Is there a way to remove a handling fee from store pickup?

I would think that $willpickupnohandling=TRUE;

would set the will pickup handling to zero, but it does not.
