It would be great if we could upload zone charts from carriers so that would make it more accurate for custom shipping. I know we could hook into the API and get it from them directly, but there are a couple of reasons we want to make slight adjustments (more than the flat percentage adjustment that is already able to be done).

The state method is simpler to setup than down to the zip code, but obviously less accurate as a state can have more than one shipping zone. It would be great if there was an option to set the postal zones by zip code via csv obtained from the carriers.

UPS zone charts can be downloaded here: https://www.ups.com/us/en/support/shipping-support/shipping-costs-rates/daily-rates

USPS zone charts: https://postcalc.usps.com/DomesticZoneChart

Just to be clear, you are looking to show "time in transit"?

Thanks,
David

No, not for time in transit, but for the actual shipping cost. It would be great if we could be more granular to set pricing down to the zip code level instead of just the state. A state can have more than one shipping zone. Since there are so many zip codes, it would likely have to be something that was done via CSV. Most of the carriers determine the zone based on the first 3 numbers. It would be great if it could take the csv file from UPS, USPS, etc. and set the shipping zones based on their files. It would just give a little more accuracy and customizing instead of just using the rates from the carrier's servers. Since we are on one coast, we like to slightly increase the zones 2-4 and slightly decrease the zones 7-8 so shipping costs feel a little more even.

Hi Atlend, sorry, but I'm confused here.
The cart is integrated with USPS, FedEx, and UPS among others that provide accurate rates.
Are you using a different carrier?
Thanks,
David

I would like to be able to set them manually so that I can do my own adjustments on a per zone basis. There isn't a great way to set your shipping prices manually and have it be accurate down to the shipping zone because the manual system is based on the state not the zip code.

I am aware that I can hook into the API and that we can do a blanket adjustment to those rates, but what I would like if possible would be to manually control it down to the zip code. Since there are so many zip codes, this would obviously have to be done via csv upload.

Hi Atlend, there are over 10,000 zip codes in the US.
Shipping carriers are always making changes and adjusting rates.
After operating my store for more than 15 years now, with many millions in sales, I can tell you that shipping is about averages and no matter what you do you will never get 100% accurate rates to the customer compared to what you pay.
What I learned a long time ago was to look at my shipping revenue, versus spend, over a broad time range, like six months to see how things are working out.

You don't want to charge too much and lose customers, but you also don't want to come up short.
In the end, you will win on some and lose on others, but again, the best thing is to not look at individual orders, but rather averages over time.

I also know all stores are different and your needs may be different, but I have been at this a while and though I would share my thoughts on this.

There are many settings for automated shipping with fedex, UPS and USPS that you can adjust to get close to accurate rates and avoid the time of manually creating all those zones.

Thanks,
David
