Hello i currently have my website set for Notify me when back in stock

but a lot of my competitors do pre order where they charge a deposit

i would like to add that option

there is curently a back order option which when i turn it on stops the notify me when back in stock

can i have both running

I'm afraid you can't have both at the same time but the idea of the Back Order is that you actually take the order anyway and fulfill it when you have stock so the notification option is a bit redundant.
