Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Unrecognized database format 'D:\home\sailorstailor.com\wwwroot\email\junkmail.mdb'.

/vsadmin/inc/metainfo.asp, line 34

Our site has been working just fine for years, then all of a sudden it went down the other day. Upon contacting the Hosting service, Hostek.com saying out site is down, we have not make any changes on our end so something must have happened on the servers... they replied

This error indicates you're using an MS Access database (.mdb file) that's having compatibility issues. We strongly recommend migrating from MS Access to either MSSQL or MySQL for better reliability and performance.
Since MS Access is a Microsoft product, MSSQL would be the most similar in usage and syntax. There are free conversion tools available:
Access to MSSQL converter
Access to MySQL converter
After conversion, you may need to test compatibility and potentially update some SQL query code to work with the new database engine. If you need help with code updates, you'll want to consult with your developer.

I have another website with them using the same exact asp version of ecommercetemplates, and it is working but on a different server.

Is there something I have to do to get this working or is it my hosting company I need to get after?

Help

Hi Scott
It looks like the MS Access database has been corrupted and it's quite possible that downloading it, opening it in MS Access and doing a "Compact and Repair" on it would sort it out. Otherwise going back to a backup would be the thing to do. MSSQL Server is the best choice if you are using the ASP version though mySQL works with the cart too and there is a script here for converting one to the other...

However you do need a working copy of the Access database.

I did try replacing the database with a different (backup) copy and it did not make any difference in the error being sent back still the same

Hi Scott
Have you tried opening the database locally and doing a compact and repair? Does it seem ok? If so, maybe pushing your host to sort the problem out would be an idea.
Can I also point out to anyone looking in that you are supposed to have a license for each store. And updater are on a per-store basis. Just saying in case the sailorstailor site is nothing to do with beanbags.
