 Finding IPs That Were Blocked?

Can anyone suggest the logfile name we can access on our Servelink shared Linux host and the search text to identify each instance in the past few weeks where an IP address matched an entry in the cart’s IP Blocking list and was successfully blocked?

Explanation:

Because we sell emergency-use tools, we frequently see orders with inconsistent or bogus information entered at checkout.

On those rare occasions when a follow-up call or email results in a profane or abusive response, we void the order and add the order IP address to the cart’s IP Blocking list.

To keep that list a reasonable length, we track each blocked IP in a spreadsheet that records whether the address appears to be static, dynamic, or mobile; along with the cancelled order number and date, buyer name, and the reason for the block.

Fewer than 10% of those addresses appear to be static IPs that justify being blocked for very long. So we periodically check the spreadsheet, remove older entries from the cart’s IP Blocking list, and update the spreadsheet to show the date when the IP was unblocked.

It would help for us to know whether anyone has recently tried to place an order from a blocked IP address.

So what I did was add some code to pull in client notes in the order details page.
We also match orders based on name, email and IP.
So if there is a match the client notes come up and we can see they are banned, or a problem customer.

If the customer does not have an account when we ban them, we create one.

Maybe something like that would work for you.

Dave, thanks for this.

Before capturing an order, we check the phone number and email against prior orders, calls, and messages to see if it might be a special case.

What we're really looking for is a way to see if there was an attempt to place an order from an IP address on our IP Blocking list.
