Hello team,

I installed the update to 7.9.6 version but i noticed that when i upload a photo, it's name changes from this:
"Screenshot 2026-10-11 at 18-51-40"
to this:
"Screenshot+2026-10-11+at+18-51-40"

In the /prodimages/ folder, the filename is as the original filename, i.e. "Screenshot 2026-10-11 at 18-51-40",
hence the photo is not showing in the preview window and of course, also in the products page.

Can you please advice?

thanks a lot

I also noticed, in the shop product detail page, when i click "add to cart", the window opens up but the image is not shown anymore. It used to, before the update.

Kindly advice.

Thanks in advance

Hi, it's really best to avoid spaced in filenames - particularly with files or images that will be rendered over the internet.
The latest versions, you can set a naming convention for your images so you can set that up, or simply give your file a good name (productid-1 productis-2 etcc before uploading to avoid the issue.

I'll see if I can find the instructions for the naming as that would be your ideal solution.
In the end, you don't really want your server loaded up with images that are hard to understand.

Thanks,
David

Hello,
I think the issue has to do with URL encoding. I see in my /prodimages/ folder, many images with empty spaces in the filename and there was no problem.

after the upgrade, the image is still uploaded with original filename (either has spaces or not) but in the admin product page, in the text-field shows the image name with + or 2%F etc... and that's saved in the DB...so on the front end, the image is not showed anymore, actually, not even the small preview in the admin product page.

Have you tried uploading an image with no spaces?
I expect this has popped up due to the new feature that will allow your upload feature to give your images a proper filename.

Thanks,
David

Hello,

I have tried that on my IIS as i havent updated the live store yet. I uploaded this photo as large:
629139501_n.jpg

In the admin products page, i see the preview of this photo and in the textbox it shows:
prodimages/629139501_n_lg.jpg
I see this file in the /prodimages/ folder as well.
By the way, no other photo in the prodimages folder has this _lg or _sm at the end. Just something i noticed.

In the store now, in the product details page, I dont see the photo at all

Also, I cannot go and tell the people adding products and uploading photos to rename them so there arent any spaces. All this time, it has been working just fine even if photos had spaces in them. There were saved correctly in the DB and the shop was working just fine. I had to update cause of the warning of security issues.

Thanks

Best regards,
Harry

Ok, let's see if we can get the instructions for the new naming tool and I think that will fix your problems going forward.
I'll see if I can round those up.

Thanks,
David

Thanks David. Also it is the issue that the image is not showing anymore in the products detail page.
Also i noticed, on products i havent changed anything, that the image of the product is not shown in the popup window when you click the "add to cart".

Ok, so I expect your image filename is showing in your admin with spaces and the cart is attempting to add the plus signs + and that is why the images do not render.
If this is just a product or two - for now - and to confirm the issue, just reupload the images to those products - except without spaces and see if they work.

Thanks,
David

Hi Harry and David
As David mentioned the best thing to do is to avoid spaces in image filenames. Really, it's best to only use alphanumeric characters plus underscores and dashes. For windows servers case doesn't matter but would keep everything lowercase anyway. But saying that, this is caused by a URL Encoding problem which I've fixed now and the fix is in the file vsadmin/doupload.asp.

Hello Vince and Dave,

The fix worked but i have an issue as the images do not appear on the eshop. They do appear in the preview window in the admin, i see the images in the /prodimages/ folder, i see the two entries in the DB table "prodimages" as:
prodimages/629139501 18390117205148042 6021736652859497047 n_sm.jpg
prodimages/629139501 18390117205148042 6021736652859497047 n_lg.jpg

I cannot see the small image in the "products" page and also the large one in the product details

Can you please help out?

Thanks

Best regards,
Harry

Hi Harry
I have to say that's a strange filename but it shouldn't affect things. But image URLs are nothing special really and you should be able to just put the URL in your browser address bar and view it in your browser. For example...

https://www.yoursite.com/prodimages/629139501 18390117205148042 6021736652859497047 n_sm.jpg

Can you try that? And if you can't see it in the browser, can you check if there are any differences between the name of the image that you see via FTP and the name in the browser address bar?

Hello Vince,

thanks for getting back on this.
This is the developer's view on FF, this is the same product but on IIS i uploaded a test image:
v.7.9.6 -- the image is in my folder and yes i can see it if i go directly here:
http://127.0.0.1/de/prodimages/2013_0529_204132_sm.jpg

<div class="prodimage allprodimages"><a class="ectlink" href="/de/...aber-dass-es-den-Winter-nicht-selber-friert"><img id="prodimage0" class="prodimage allprodimages" src="prodimages/2013_0529_204132_sm.jpg" alt="...aber dass es den Winter nicht selber friert"></a></div>

From the live shop, v.7.8.9
<div class="prodimage allprodimages"><a class="ectlink" href="/de/...aber-dass-es-den-Winter-nicht-selber-friert"><img id="prodimage0" class="prodimage allprodimages" src="prodimages/Cover_Boehmer.jpg" alt="...aber dass es den Winter nicht selber friert"></a></div>

On v7.9.6 i do not see the images in the products page, products details page and also when adding a product in my cart (the image does not appear in the popup window)

Best regards,
Harry

Vince, i think i know what the issue is with the images. Running the shop on IIS, the URL to fetch/show the image is the actual domain and path and not the localhost IP address. So all good. I will update the live store

Sorry for the time wasted on this
