I have a 30 day test system and am trying to use it with paypal payments pro, which I have an account. The only thing I have found is the API setup. I don't know how to grant API permission. I have also tried entering the information in thru the admin section of payment processor. Either way I get an unknown error when trying to check out of the store.

Is this the hosted store you are setting up, it sounds like it probably is.

You don't need to use the API permissions, have a look here for the set up https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/paypal-pro.asp (3 token method)
