It seems as though every year or so we see several orders appearing around the same time in the cart as "Unauthorized" with a PayPal 'Auth Code: no ipn' error.
Usually PayPal shows full payment received, so we manually change the order status and proceed to ship.
It's assumed that these issues are caused by PayPal server problems or network congestion between PayPal and our web host.
Other than calling PayPal - who seem to deny most problems until deluged with duplicate trouble tickets from many websites - can anyone suggest some steps to help us isolate the cause of these errors?
