Hi - help please. The shopping cart on my website www.hobbyholidays.co.uk is not working and hence I am not getting any sales. I can select a product and click checkout, a pop-up comes up saying the item has been added to the cart. From there you can click on "checkout", you then get "cart.php" with the correct item, value and carriage charge, again you click on "Checkout", you instantly get sslrelay.com server IP could not be found
Earlier today I got a similar message but after a few mins it then said "sslrelay took too long to respond"
Regards Phil

Hi Phil, that sounds like a problem with your website secure certificate. Assuming you have a working ssl on your website, you should be able to take any page, and in the address bar of your browser, change the "http" to "https" and see what happens.
If you get a similar message, it's likely an issue with your SSL, but if that seems fine, then perhaps it's an issue connecting to your payment provider.
Maybe some additional info would be helpful. Did you recently make any changes? Have you updated the site recently? What version of the cart is your site on? What payment provider(s) are you using?
Thanks, David

Hi, just a follow up, I did take a look at the site, and I do not see where you have an SSL on the site at all. These days with any e-commerce site, that's a must.

When going to https://www.hobbyholidays.co.uk I get this returned from the browser - This site can’t provide a secure connection www.hobbyholidays.co.uk sent an invalid response.
ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
When trying to check the site using HTTPS checker I get the following error - write EPROTO 101057795:error:14077438:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert internal error:c:\projects\electron\vendor\node\deps\openssl\openssl\ssl\s23_clnt.c:772:
This is also showing - No pages found, either the report was stopped or we had an issue crawling the site. Try disabling robots.txt in the Advanced Options to see if this site is blocking access. (Personally I never use directives in a robots.txt, I always place the directives in .htaccess)

Hi - Thanks for the reply.
Paypal is my normal provider, but this is pre paypal as the customer has not even selected the payment method. As I remember I have 3 payment methods Paypal Bank details (I e-mail the details afterwards) Cheque or card details over the phone.
No changes have been made for about 6 months at least including updates
Current version PHP 6.5.6
My website is offers very specialized products to a niche market where most customers know me personally and hence trust is there + my website does not handle any payment card details at all. Therefore it was not an urgent concern to change to HTTPS plus we did have a plan to make a domain name and website change which we have, and is HTTPS, but due to circumstances beyond my control we have not acted upon. Hi Steve
Thanks for the reply. Sorry also not sure where "Advanced Options" is.
My current work load means I cannot spend anything like the time I should or want to developing my website.

Hi Phil, you might want to try to disable paypal for a moment and see how the site responds. An SSL is pretty much a must for an ecommerce site. Google surely has demoted your site in the SERPS by now.
Thanks, David

Hi Mike
Sorry but unless my memory has failed me (not that its brilliant) I have never installed SSL which if I understand correctly is what makes HTTP into HTTPS, for the reasons detail.ed above.
Has somebody changed something on the web itself to stop non HTTPS websites from working. If not why has mine stopped working.

Hi Phil, the best solution would be 1.update to the most recently version of the shopping cart software 6.56 is pretty old and 2. contact your web which looks to be 1and1 and purchase a SSL certificate. These days shoppers want to see the SSL lock and feel secure online. Winners never quit, quitters never win CSS and Responsive DesignsUser Manual for Ecommerce Templates

Hi Sinbad
Thanks for that, but I'm sorry, my gut feeling is that "might" solve the problem rather than "will" solve the problem. The website has been working perfectly up to the 19th Jan then nothing since. I understand the issues regarding customer trust, but this is not that problem. I have been getting e-mails from customers trying to place orders but cannot (not don't want).
I have been trying to sell the business and created a new one www.finelinekits.co.uk that is HTTPS and it is my intention to use that website for the section of the business I want to keep.
Upgrading again might work, but again why is the current one failing if nothing has been changed in over 6 months. If we know not why the old is not working, how do we know the new is going to work. I am currently working 14 hour days and need to plan upgrades and changes with regard to my time, and possible problem solving after the event. The last change I made was to the menu structure, next thing I know I have lost 2 working days before the menu back to usability. I not trying to be difficult, but at this stage I don't know why I suddenly have the problem.

Phil, The reason then is your setting for the SSL URL. Right now it is redirecting when it want to use SSL to sslrelay.com. Be sure your SSL URL is empty (or the same as your site). Depending on your version, it used to be set in the includes $pathtossl=''; and newer carts it is set on the main setting page of your site admin. Thanks Mike
Sorry need to clarify this but currently $pathtossl is set to = "https://sslrelay.com/hobbyholidays.co.uk";
It has hobbyholidays.co.uk but are you saying it should say "http://hobbyholidays.co.uk or should I just every thing out

Mike - you are a star
Thank you very much,
I certainly have not changed that before, I doubt a hacker would have changed just that. Its not important, but have you any idea for other customers besides me as to why this has suddenly caused a problem
Thanks again Phil

quote: leave it out. Set it to $pathtossl="";
That isn't completely fantastic though, as it will then shows "not secure" in every browser . We're in the process of moving and securing it, so we'll have it all solved shortly.
