In Dreamweaver I did a site search for h1 tag and found a lot.
I am attaching a picture of some of the list, there are many others not shown.

Can anyone advise what should be done please?
Many thanks
John

I went through the root pages and could not find many h1 tags at all!

I did another site search and this produced totally different results so I will look further.

What 'issue' do you have / exist about the h1 tags?

Hi Steve
The issue I thought I had was more than one h1 tag on some pages but I did a rerun and they all disappeared.
I went through the pages in the root directory manually and as yet most do not have h1 tags so what happened on the first site search I do not know. But it looks OK now.
Thanks
John

Hi John

I always check website files using Notepad++ & I only use DW for mass changes across all pages.

Before HTML5, it was recommended to use only one H1 tag per page but this is no longer the case. In fact it can have a negative effect on SEO. One of Googles 'top boffins' stated that Google doesn't really care about how many or which order down the page the H1 tags are placed. I always stick with H1 then H2 etc etc.

If you are already using HTML5, which can have distinct sections within the same page, then using H1 tags for each section is perfectly fine.

Hi Steve,
Yes I agree more than one h1 tag is OK as per Matt Cutts and a few others.

Interesting what you say about Notepad++ I take it you are a coder?

Thanks for your help

John

Nope, I am not a coder but Notepadd++ is probably my most used programme along with FileZilla FTP. I never use the built in FTP of DW either.

Yes Notepad++ has some powerful features even for basic usage...

Notepad++ "It's not just for coders"

That should be their tag line...
