We have a supplier that will do a big discount on pallet size drop ship orders of $2,700 USD and offer free shipping on their items.

We offer items from various "other" suppliers and they can't all be combined as "the same order" as the drop ship to equal $2700 USD.

I can create a category for this supplier, yet how do I keep other items out of their "drop ship requirement"? How do I force the $2700 USD minimum in this specific category? Or, any other ideas for this situation?

Hi Michael
How about setting up a Free Shipping Discount and then making the other products that are not in this category Free Shipping Exempt?

Hi Vince, that would help with shipping.

The other issue is forcing $2700 min order for this category and items from other categories can't be combined with this one to equal the $2,700. I know it's kind of like it needs the be it's own website, but that's not I good idea to take them away from my main store.

I'm trying to think out of the box and appreciate any and all collective wisdom and experience.

Could a static page do this? Should I ask for Mod help for coding, would that be the answer?

I don't know any of the above answers, I just hate to leave $$$ on the table because of a website / shopping cart issue. We are trying to figure it out how we can do it.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael
Really, I have given this a lot of thought but it's quite a complicated thing you are asking and needs to take into account mixing items from this category with others. I think some Mod help may well be the way to go.

I've been giving this some more thought. Would a sub-domain work for this situation?

Hi Michael
It's a possibility but it really does sound like you want to have a separate database on that sub-domain so that you can handle the different shipping requirements etc.

Hi Vince, a separate DB is probably the right way to go. I just want the look and feel of being part of the same website (profile) even if a different DB is doing the calculations. In other words I would like the customer to feel like he is still at the main site and wasn't forwarded someplace else. Also, I'd love for Google to index the products as part of the main site (since 2007) to help rankings.

I hope that makes since. Is it more complicated than I imagine?

Hi Michael
Well it's not normally that complicated to set up a sub-domain but ask your host if you are not sure how. Then you would probably want to start with a copy of the main site in the sub domain. Make a copy of the database then connect the sub-domain db_conn_open.php file to the new copy. Then alter the products as required after changing the Store URL to the sub-domain URL. That should do to start I think.

This sub-domain is a new thing to me, does it need it's own ssl from the main domain?

Hi Michael
I think you would have to ask your host if your main site SSL could also cover the sub-domain.

Thanks Vince, I had to buy a separate one. I know there are some multi-domain wild cards that I may use going forward.

Vince, please check your email
