We sell products that some are made of lead. These can not be shipped to: California, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Washington and Vermont but they can be shipped to the other 41 states. Before any items are placed in a shopping cart, I would like to "one time" force them to declare which state their order would be shipped to. If they enter a prohibited state the lead items are removed from the product pages so that can't order them. I realize once they create an account this could be easier, but who creates an account just to check out a website?

How can this be done?
Thanks,

Michael

Let me ask this a different way.

What if their cart is complete and they begin the checkout and enter a prohibited state, can the checkout procedure be stopped until the "lead" items are removed from the cart?

Hi Michael
Not with the cart as standard as, as you can imagine, this is quite a specialized request. It really would require some kind of modification and probably the best thing to do for that is post in the developers forum below.

You could probably use my tip for the PROP65 stuff ( https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=111382 ) and change the action to disable the checkout button until the items are removed from the cart.

Thanks Dave, I hoped to see the demo.

BTW: https://www.floridasurpluswarehouse.com is for sale

Is there a different web address you are using to test?

The domain is indeed for sale. I own it.
Here is the link - When I originally posted that tip, the site was not under https, so the link is bad now.
Here is the correct link - https://www.floridasurpluswarehouse.com/dev/proddetail.php?prod=keyboard001
I assume the demo is still working. I haven't touched it in a while.

:::EDIT::: I checked and the demo is working. A message is triggered on the 3rd step of checkout.
The same was we mark a product as prop65, you could mark it as lead.
Then rework the part in the cart to disable the checkout button if the state is one that you will not allow a "lead" item.
It would be easy to just throw a message in big giant text and using javascript disable the checkout button and/or hide it.

Thanks David,
This maybe the way to go and keep it simple. I don't want to make updaters hard to do, been there before and didn't like it.

I just realized why the link in the original post didn't work, https

Thanks
