How do I turn off country tax?, my state tax should also say sales tax if possible.

I get this:

Sub Total: $3.00
State Tax: $0.24
Country Tax: $0.24
Grand Total: $3.48

I do not need country tax, (even if it always read 0 that would be fine) and it would be nice if state tax read sales tax but that is not mandatory.

I really did read the documentation but I missed the part about this evidently.

Please advise
thank you

Hi Michael

If an item is tax exempt and you need to show the zero tax display rather than the default which is no display at all, add the following to your includes file..

alwaysdisplaycountrytax=TRUE

Also open up your languagefile_en.asp located at vsadmin/inc/ in Notepad++, or Notepad, & search for State Tax. Grab that line & also add that to your includes file & just alter the wording to suit. Adding that lne to the includes will ensure that any future updates to the languagefile_en.asp file won't overwrite edits made in that file

If you log in to your ECT admin then of the 4 top menus, the one on the right is "SHIPPING ADMIN" and under that is states and countries. It's in these States and Countries admin pages that you can set the tax for states and countries.

clearly I am making this harder than it needs to be.

now I only get

Sub Total:
Grand Total:

All taxes are gone now :-)

I know you must get tired of these simple ones but I did not find an answer via search.

We will ONLY make sales to:
1. USA states
2. We charge everyone our sales tax rate of 8%

LMK
thanks

It sounds like you want to remove countries other than the USA. In the countries admin page you can set a country to Enabled, or can remove the Enabled flag. So just remove the Enabled setting for all the countries other than the USA.
For your tax, if you are going to charge all the US states the same 8% rate then just set the country tax rate for the USA to 8% on the countries admin page. (Just click on Modify for the USA to set that.) This is just a bit simpler than setting every state to 8%.

Hi Michael
If you try clicking on the Checkout button, then enter your customer details and you should see the Country Tax on the next page.

If I get what he is saying - he wants to shut off country tax and turn on state taxes.

Country tax:
"Shipping Admin" -> "Countries"
For United States -> "Modify"
Enter zero for tax

State tax:
"Shipping Admin" -> "States"
find state you wish to charge sales tax -> "Modify"
Enter tax amount for 'Tax %'

It could be. But if he wants to set all the states tax rates to 8% then that is just effectively the same as having a country tax of 8%. The only difference really between state and country tax is that the state tax allows you to set each state differently. If you don't want to do that, set it as a country tax. Then when it goes to 8.5% you only have to change one value.

Hi Guys,

Got pulled off of this for a few days, store not live until Oct 15th.

But I am back on it. I appreciate the help.

BOTH of the last posts above this one "should" work. But even if I try both I get this:

Sub Total $3.00
Grand Total $3.00

No where is there even a mention of state of country tax.

And since the Sub and Grand Totals are equal I can tell the tax is not even being calculated not just "invisible".

Did I delete a field from the cart? I never edited that file but anything is possible.

Any direction is appreciated I hate to reinstall the store from scratch.

Thanks in advance!!
m

Preparing for my next question I just noticed this and it pertains to the above.
When I go to PayPal to check out it shows a total of $3.24 so the tax amount is being transmitted to PP just not displayed. Does that help??
