Hello All,

I am installing new version of EC Templates on a clean install of openSUSE, I have uploaded the files, created a DB using MariaDB tools, modified the db_conn_open.php file, and tried run the createdb.php script. I get this error:

Database Connect Error (2002) No such file or directory
You need to set your database connection in vsadmin/db_conn_open.php

I have confirmed that I have entered the correct user name and password. I used the same credentials to connect to MariaDB so as to create the DB. I have confirmed the DB exists. I host my own server on AWS EC2 and have installed PHP and MariaDB.

OpenSuse Leap 15.3
PHP 7.4.27
MariaDB 10.5.13

I am thinking there must be some sort of environment variable that is not working was it should. As I did the install of both PHP and MySQL using zypper, it seems likely that I did something wrong.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi John
Searching for this problem I see a couple of answers saying to replace "localhost" with "127.0.0.1" so that would be worth a try first.

Thank you Vince,

I got it working late last night. I saw the 127.0.0.1 suggestion and tried that. It may have been part of the solution but here is the problem.

All of the instructions assume the end user is hosting their website with a professional web host. cPanel and all that. They assume somebody already set up database so they don't explain the details like how to assign permissions and name it and such.

Once I figured out that the instructions sucked from my point of view, I started from scratch, built a new server, installed MariaDB, PHP 7.something, and created a DB with appropriate permissions. At that point, easy peasy!

But......I do have a bug. In order to log in, I have to click the remember me check box at the log in screen. I'll post a new thread.

Thanks for getting back to me.
