Hello!

I notice that Bing is having some problem to index accented characters correctly.

By example, I found that if a product appear with Bing Images Search, and if there any accented characters, the link won't work.

Like this one :

https://www.lineaire.com/Sac_d%27%C3%A9picerie_%C3%A9cologique

The link provide by Bing is :

https://www.lineaire.com/Sac_d%2527%25E9picerie_%25E9cologique and this link don't appear to work.

Is there a workaround for this problem?

Thanks!

You can create an alternate link address. In the product admin below the product images you will see a drop down that says "Has static URL" "Has static page". Select "Has static URL" and type in a URL that will work, such as substituting the accented e's with plain e's and removing the apostrophe. just type the words the way you want the link to read with spaces with no web URL and no extension, e.g. https://www.lineaire.com/ or .php, as the cart will fill in the blanks. So by entering Sac depicerie ecologique this:
https://www.lineaire.com/Sac_d%27%C3%A9picerie_%C3%A9cologique
will become this
https://www.lineaire.com/Sac_depicerie_ecologique

Hello Marshall,

It might be a solution, but with over 10,000 products, it will take a lot of time!

I'm sure there a better/easier way to do this.

The solution your are proposing can't work with a multilingual store as it is at the moment, the "Has Static URL" can only use 1 entry and we would need 2 in our case.

I think the ideal URL should be something like "Sac-d-epicerie-ecologique" with hyphens, not underscores.

Thanks!

First, you can download the products and do the static URL in a CSV file.
Second, as for the hyphens, if your includes.php file has the spacer defined as an underscore, that is what it will use. You will have to change that to a hyphen. Manually inserting hyphens may cause a problem. You want to look for $detlinkspacechar="_";

I understand that doing this using a CSV file will be faster, but it can't work with a multilingual store, there only one field.

Maybe it's something Vince can look into.

Thanks!

Hi!

Using "Has Static URL" should work, but it need to offer extra fields for other languages.

I will post this recommendation in the appropriate forum.

Thanks!
