I spent over an hour on the phone with USPS trying to get them to activate the API. They couldn't find that dept. and created a service request. Nothing has been done in the 3 weeks since then. So we created another account using a different email.

My client registered with USPS from within the admin. She finally received an email from them but there's nothing about activating the API, like there used to be. There is nowhere that we can follow the directions below. Even though I entered the user name, I'm still getting an error when entering the zip code. We applied for a business account because there were only two choices. What did we do wrong? Any suggestions?

"After you apply to the USPS, you will receive an email from them with your username. In this email will be a couple of lines about how to switch your profile to allow you access to the production server. Until you follow this step you will receive an error in checkout about not being authorized on the server. Remember to mention to USPS that the set up is "pre-tested" and you are using Ecommerce Templates."

Hi Lady M,

Did this email include a username?
If so, have you enabled the services you want to offer and enabled USPS in the admin > main settings?

Thanks,
David

Yes, and Yes. I phoned her and had her click to verify the email. I also checked to be sure there is a weight on the product selected. Did a forced refresh and get this message. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to enter a password in Main Settings. This is a php store.
"Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect."

Old version: 7.4.11

Long story but we set this up 2 years ago but Husband passed away and we couldn't get that account activated. Hence we had to create a new account.

Hi Lady M, there is no password.
You just click the USPS Admin button (between the Register with USPS, and Edit shipping methods buttons) and be sure that user ID is there.
I don't think there are any other steps.
It been a long time since I set mine up, and I don't think you need to wait for any further communication from them.
Can you check to be sure that exact USER id is there in the admin?

Thanks,
David

Did that. The email from USPS gives the user id and I entered it exactly as stated.

Maybe I'll wait until tomorrow to see what happens. Sometimes fairies get in and fix things. I'll report back then. Thanks for your help. It helps to know that it's a bit different.
