Hi,

This has increased recently, but our customers who pay through Auth.Net have had issues occasionally went processing their payment at the very end of the order.

It seems that after submitting the payment from the Auth.Net window, the payment will timeout on their end. Once it gets to us on the website orders, their auth code will show as "no ipn" and their transaction ID will be blank. The order itself will be unauthorized by this point too on our site, but the payment itself was approved on Auth.net. We end up having to fix the details and push it through manually for the customer.

I'm not too sure where to start with this, I will likely reach out to Auth.Net support as well to see if they have an idea as to why the payment might time out at the end of an order.

I don't think this is any form of fraud either, as the last two customers that dealt with this were shops that called to ask if their payment went through fine, to which this is how we found out their order timed out on their end. I haven't tried recreating any of their orders yet to see if we get the same issue, I may do so Monday.

Thanks,
Mike

I just wanted to update this post with info:

-Auth.net support staff cannot deduce what the "no ipn" error means.

-They reported no issue on their side with the order. Simply saying the transaction went through fine to them with no "no ipn" error on their side, it displayed fine for us under our Auth.Net account as well.

-I did try recreating one of the orders with the same shipping info and such, different payment info of course through Auth.Net, it did not recreate the same error.

-It doesn't happen again to the same customer, it will just have a spout of a few days in which it will affect a couple of orders.

I'm not too sure where to turn at this point, maybe the customer's internet has some sort of hiccup at the checkout process? But this occurs too often for that to be a possibility.

This doesn't halt business in any major way, but it's just something that occurs enough to warrant some answers and see if we can do anything about it.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike
When you get an order through Auth.net they send an notification or "IPN" to your site so that the cart knows the order was successful and it seems that this notification is failing for some reason. If you like, please send me the site FTP login when this happens again (vince AT ecommercetemplates DOT com) and I'll see if I can see anything in the logs as to why the IPN failed.
