Hey Vince,
Turns out that, even though I twice uploaded the new cart version 7.8.7, one or more of the files did not overwrite the old files. I did a complete delete of all the cart files on the server then re-uploaded 7.8.7 and the problem was solved.
I really appreciate everyone's help and this matter and remind everyone to triple check file dates.
