Hi all,

For some reason I can't get the dependent options to work right. Not sure what I am doing wrong??

Product ID: IDBC150x

4 sizes - Small, Med, Large, XLarge

Add Leash? Yes No (default) on each size

Small - Yes No (default) - no type

Medium - Yes No (default)

If Yes - Select Type

Standard
EZ Grip (default)

When you click Medium - Yes -- nothing happens.

What the heck??

I have all the options set:
Add Leash 3/8 inch (Small) - yes no
Add Leash 3/4 inch (Medium) - yes no
Add Leash 3/4 inch Type - Standard or EZ Grip

I can get it working up until I add the Type to the Yes as a dependent option. When I do that, the Yes is selected when it should be No... and then the type shows even when No is clicked.

I love the dependent options but it is so hard to set up....

So I have tried not using a Type....

Just Yes or No to add a standard leash to each size.

BUT... once you select Yes on the Small size... then click on Medium or Large or XLarge... it shows No as selected but it's showing the price with a leash.

It's like it assumes once Yes is clicked it applies to all the sizes.. but still shows NO as selected. Then if you click Yes, it then adds the cost of another leash.

Not sure what to do here...

One last try to get this working is a fail.

I made one option - yes or no

If yes - choose standard or EZ Grip

Then I added this yes/no option to the product as another Product Option in Product Admin.

--------------------------

Select a size, select yes, select standard.

Works great - click on any size, shows price of each with standard leash included.

BUT - select No - NOTHING happens.

Pricing remains as if yes was selected and doesn't change the price back without a leash.

But if you add to cart - the correct price w/o a leash does show.

Anyways... I am giving up on this for today. I'll leave it on the IDBC150x so you can see what I'm talking about. I am flummoxed!

I just tried and when you select No again the prices goes back down so it seems to be working ok for me. What browser are you using?

I am literally tearing my hair out over this....

I'm using Firefox - usually do a ctrl-F5 to do a hard refresh.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I can add an existing Add Leash option and it will work just fine, but when I add the new one I created - the No button will not reset the product. Which make no sense to me...

You probably checked the site when I used an old working option to it... I got so mad I deleted the new options.

What I need to do is this:

Select Small > Add Leash? Y/N > Type Standard/EXGrip
Select Medium > Add Leash? Y/N > Type Standard/EXGrip
Select Large > Add Leash? Y/N > Type Standard/EXGrip
Select XLarge > Add Leash? Y/N > Type Standard/EXGrip

So correct me if I'm wrong but are these the steps to create this?

1. Create option Type with Standard/ExGrip
2. Create option Add Leash with Y/N
3. Add Type as dependent to the Yes
4. Add Add Leash as dependent to Small on the main option for product

::sigh:: I can only get this working if i don't do the Type of Leash.

No matter how I try to add that 3rd option - it fails.

No idea how it works on the old options.... even tried cloning them.

It still doesn't work right - if you select yes on the Small - then click on Medium - it shows as NO but shows the price w/leash, it's not changing the price at all. If you add the Medium to the cart, it adds as no leash. You have to go back to the Small and click NO to get it to reset.

Then if you click Medium and Yes, it stays on YES when you click Large or XLarge. But if you click Small, it jumps back to NO but price shows w/leash. Clicking NO does nothing, clicking yes makes the price jump from 31.98 to 43.97!

--------------------

I made it a seperate option & not tied into the size. Gave up on offering type.

I had this problem once and it had to do with repeating an option, e.g. Yes No. It ends up appearing multiple times in the page's script and causes confusion. I know there is a post here, but that was a while ago and I cannot find it.

Hi Marshall,

Yeah, I think you are right. It doesn't seem to work to have one option applied to one size & then another option on the other sizes.

It also doesn't seem to work when there are more than one option on the product, either, in Product Admin.

But on the other hand, i DO have this working when using dropdowns:
Search MELT103
But this one is not using AltID's or radio buttons.. so maybe that's part of the issue.

Anyways, it's unfortunate that I can't offer a choice of leash but I really like the radio buttons, so I'll live with it. :)

Ok, I'll make a note to look into this. But in the meantime would it be possible to create different Yes / No options for the different choices?

Vince, I posted a similar problem some time ago but cannot find the post. I thought we resolved the problem, but it has been so long, I do not remember (a lot has changed since then). As I recall it happens when you have something like this with several dependent options on the same product.

1 -> 2 -> 3
4 -> 5 -> 3
6 -> 7 -> 3

When '3' is common to all, the '3' will only appear once in the code and it will only affect the first dependent option that uses it. When you go to use it on a second dependent option, that is when things get weird.

If I can find the post or remember which website had the problem, I will get back to you and Julie.

I have no flipping idea but it just won't work for me.
I created 4 sets of Y/N and 3 sets of Type.

I added the Y/N's to the sizes. Then added the Types to the Y/N's as dependents. Nope.

Then I tried adding the Types to the Y/N's as dependent options - then adding just the Y/N's to the Size option as dependent. Nope.

Neither way worked, it's like once you select yes on any of the sizes, that's it. Applies the yes to all the sizes even though No is selected. Then it gets nuts with the pricing. Even tried dropdown menus. Same thing...

Throwing in the towel on this....

Hi Julie, I could give you access to my .php test site so you can try there and if it's not working as expected, I can take a look.
Perhaps it's just an issue with the implementation.
I use dependent options on quite a few products and it all works as expected.

Thanks David but I am done with this....

In theory dependent options are a great idea but implementing them is not so simple.

Perhaps someone could do up a help file that shows a step by step guide.

I do have them working on some products I did years ago and I remember it was not easy when I finally figured it out. There's even an old post still on the forum & I could only get them to work when I set the item to In Stock, not Stock By Options. But those products do not use AltIDs...maybe that's why they work.

I don't know but I do know that I have tried EVERY flipping way to configure these options and they all failed.

Hey Vince!

I've narrowed down the issue and hope you can come up with a fix.

If you set up the Yes / No as radio buttons with CSS and then make the dependent option when Yes is clicked a dropdown menu - it works correctly. You can select a type, click on any of the above sizes, then click on No, it removes the leash & adjusts the price without leash. And vice versa, click on yes, adjusts the price w/leash. Works correctly.

Size: Small, Medium, Large (radio buttons)
Add Leash? Yes, No (radio buttons)
If yes - dropdown with types shown

Example: item IDBC150x

If you set up the Yes / No as radio buttons with CSS and then make the dependent option when Yes is clicked Radio buttons with CSS - the No no longer functions. You can't deselect the leash.

I set up a test item that shows this: IDBC150TEST

Hope that helps!

Let me know when you've taken a look so I can remove the test item from view. :)

Hi Julie
Thanks so much for working out the test case that displays this problem and that helps a lot. I wanted to let you know I'm on the case and have recreated the problem here so don't need your test page now. I'll let you know when I have a fix for this.

I have a site where multiple options aren't going into the cart. A regular "Add to cart" works fine. On the multiple options there are brushes, same name, different sizes. Upon checkout, there is nothing in the cart. Is this the same issue? It's a PHP site running 7.0.7.

I ran a search on the forum - and this seems to be the only result that is relevant.

Hi LadyM
The change for this hasn't got anything to do with multi purchase options really.
