Hello - I currently am running an old version of the ECT shopping cart generic version that I use with my own site design.
I am getting ready to design a new site to replace my current one. The new site design will be responsive.
Do I need to purchase a new responsive generic cart to be used in my new site design or will I get a responsive design shopping cart if I just get the 6 month updater?
Thank you very much!
Mike

Hi, you can keep your cart and just change your design.
The include lines for each page just need to be in place.
The cart itself is responsive, and an update would be highly recommened to be sure you have the latest security fixes and features.

There are some really good designs ECT offers that you might like.
You can get those for a reduced cost as well, using the software replacement purchase.

The replacement software purchased with with 6 months support too.

Here are some of the premium responsive designs - https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/premium-responsive-design.asp

Thanks,
David

Thanks for the response.
If I am understanding correctly - the cart that I will receive if I just buy the updater will be the same as if I were to purchase new?

That's correct - There are only two versions of the cart software itself.
.ASP for Windows Servers
.PHP for Linux/Unix (and Windows if you like) Servers.

You choose the version depending on what server you are using. Windows or Linux....
Technically, the .php version can run on windows, but windows hosting is usually more expensive.

Hi there,

Our ECT ASP site is currently running on windows based server. Our host just merged with anther company and now offer only Linux-based server that runs on cPanel. The host told me that since the site mostly run on ASP ECT pages, this might not be compatible nor we'd be able to migrate it.

Please kindly advise if this is true, that the ECT ASP Version may not work properly or may have incompatibility issues on the Linux server.

Thanks,
Amy

Hi Amy
That is true that if your host is only going to offer Linux servers then your ASP version would not be compatible. We do have PHP versions of our cart which would be compatible but that would be a lot of work to transition from ASP to PHP. What I would do if I were you is get in touch with https://servelink.com who do offer excellent windows server hosting and may offer services to do the transition for you.
