Having some trouble with the Thanks Page on the new site.

On my existing ASP site, I had some specific language that would appear on the thanks page, relating to how the customer would proceed if they chose an offline payment method. I tried entering that language on the Thanks Page in my Wordpress admin, above the [ect_thanks] shortcode.

That didn't seem to work very well. First of all, the language didn't appear on the final page - just a line that said "Thanks for your order". And then there was a box that said "Click to confirm order and view receipt". Is it necessary for the customer to click that box to submit the order? If so, it's not too clear. Anyway, after about 5 seconds the page automatically shifted, and went to the custom language that I'd entered on the Thanks Page, but there was no receipt. So I experimented with deleting that custom language on the page. Now hitting the "Click to confirm order and view receipt" button results in going to a completely blank page with nothing on it.

Very odd behavior. What am I doing wrong?

Could you try again now and see if it is better as I've made another change on your site which should help. If it doesn't then can you let me know which payment method is causing the problem?

OK, I added the language back to the Thanks page, this time putting it underneath the [ect_thanks] shortcode.

When paying by Paypal, I was able to complete the transaction (I used my hubby's Paypal account to pay for a fifty cent test product). Payment is showing up both in his account (as a debit) and my account as a credit, and the order shows up in the Order Admin area of the control panel. However, as the "customer" after accepting the T&C (which, BTW resolved my other issue - thanks) and clicking "Checkout" I was taken to a completely blank thanks page. No thanks, no custom language.

When paying by credit card, the transaction went through as well. Payment is showing up in my Paypal account, and the order shows up in the Order Admin area. This time, after clicking "Checkout" I was taken to a page that says only Thanks for your order" with a button that says "Click to confirm order and view receipt", but without clicking anything the page automatically changes to (you guessed it) - a completely blank thanks page. No custom language, no receipt.

Thirdly, I purchased another non-existent test product from myself, this time specifying offline payment method. Clicking "checkout" took me immediately to the completely blank Thanks page. Order is showing up in admin area.

I have not tried it again with the custom language removed from the thanks page. But yesterday my tests showed that hardly made any difference, except that with the custom language entered above the [ect_thanks] shortcode, what now shows as a completely blank Thanks page contained my custom language - but still no receipt.

Funny thing - I just ran a transaction through my existing ASP store and noticed the same behavior where the page automatically flips itself after completing the transaction and saying "Thanks for your order", except the page it then flips to has the custom language on it, and has the order details at the bottom. I'd never noticed that two-step page flipping before. It really doesn't even give a person time to "click to confirm your order and view receipt". But it's the lack of the custom wording, and the absence of the receipt on that page that's the main issue, as far as I'm concerned.

Could you try again now as I've made a couple of changes. It may be that because of the URL settings IPN's are not getting through for PayPal but that should be reported properly now.

Sorry, Vince, still not working. After clicking "Checkout" on the "Click totals and proceed to checkout page", with a credit card payment, I get a brief view of a page that says the transaction has been approved, but then it immediately flips to the blank Thanks page.

When I chose the offline payment option, it went directly to the blank Thanks page. Same thing when choosing Paypal on the very first cart page. Transaction goes through but then takes me to the blank Thanks page.

And yes, I've been getting Paypal IPN notifications by email with all this testing.

PayPal's IPN isn't something you get by email, it's an electronic message (for want of a better description) that is sent from PayPal to your store to say the payment is complete etc. The store then acts on that to update order status and whatnot.

But PayPal doesn't know about the "new" version store, they are going to send the IPN to the "old" store as always. So your test transactions are never going to complete properly because the IPN won't be received at the new store and they won't make any sense to the old store when they are received there, as there is no associated order.

I'd recommend not wasting time on this and instead see what you get after DNS is switched and has had time to propagate. PayPal integration is pretty well tested here and it's not like it isn't going to work when in production.

What I meant to say, Peter, is that I'm getting Paypal IPN Notification WARNINGS by email from Paypal - telling me "IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing: http://www.mystore.com/vsadmin/ppconfirm.php". Which makes sense, since the DNS isn't pointed there yet. But the transactions are going through. It isn't the transactions that are worrying me - it's what the customer won't see on the Thanks page - the receipt, and the custom text I had set up on my old site's Thanks page. I'd really like to get that sorted before repointing the domain.

Sure, but with the IPN going somewhere else you are not ever going to see a completed, payment authorized, order so you won't get a receipt or a happy success message. You could try using the "email" payment processor to bypass payment completely and test your custom text that way.

Hi I just had the same thing today blank thanks page (domain.com/thanks/) and changed the permalink to thanks.php just ran another test and sorry to report its still not working, but at least I'm getting a message from the cart. Authorization code is posting to the admin and emails are arriving to both store and customer.

Sorry, there seemed to be an error !

Not only are my emails posting to both store and customer, but the transactions are actually going through. I'm getting the money in my Paypal account a whopping 50 cents at a time, and the cards I use to process the transaction are being charged, and the Paypal Express is working. But a completely blank Thanks page.

I'm reluctant to repoint the domain before the holiday weekend, as I suspect assistance on the forum might be spotty, and weekends in general and holiday weekends especially are when I get some good sales, generally speaking. And with my existing store still working, I think I'll wait until Tuesday to change the DNS settings. Then we'll see what happens. If things aren't working after that, it'll be 9-1-1!

Can you leave it until Wednesday?

What you need to do on the day you intend to make the switch is stop orders being taken on your ASP site by adding the line nobuyorcheckout=true to your vsadmin/includes.asp and then send me a copy of your access database so I can add the orders to your MySql database, once that's done you can then switch the DNS

I'm sorry about the problems but I've found the cause for this and I get a proper thanks page in the case of the offline payment option. What it seems was happening is that something on your server was detecting a "<body>" tag in the page source and removing that an anything after it. I've just obfuscated the tag and we get the whole source now.
It doesn't mean that PayPal IPNs are going to work now on the new server until you make the DNS switch, but you should be able to test the other payment methods.

Vince, YESSSSSSS! I finally have a proper thank you page, with receipt. All three payment methods! Now as long as it sticks once I've repointed the domain!

Oddly my custom language was in there twice - once above the receipt, once below. I deleted the text on the Thanks page in the wordpress admin, and now it's only there once.

And Phil, yes I can wait until Wednesday to repoint the domain. Did you mean you wanted to add the recent orders to the database on Tuesday, and then have me repoint the domain on Wednesday? Or do it all on Wednesday?
