I received an email today from webtools@usps.gov with the following:

quote:
Hello,

You are receiving this message because you have been identified as an integrator that is still utilizing a non-secure Web Tools endpoint (http://production.shippingapis.com/). Please use the Web Tools Secure Production endpoint (https://production.shippingapis.com/) to avoid any possible service disruptions

Thank You,
USPS API Functional Team

Is there anything that I need to do?

Thanks,
Kelley

Hi Kelley
Both v7.7.4 and the latest versions use the secure form of the URL so it's possible this was sent in error. But it's a good idea to update anyway.

Hi Vince,

I figured you were on top of it!

I just updated to the lastest version of the software (ASP 7.8.4).

Thanks,
Kelley

Vince, for some reason we're still getting repeated warning emails from USPS with the subject line:

"USPS Web Tools Notice – MIGRATE NOW to USPS APIs to Avoid Service Disruption"

Here’s their documentation link:

https://www.usps.com/business/web-tools-apis/documentation-updates.htm

We're currently running v7.7.9, and knowing USPS I suspect these emails might be going out indiscriminately—without verifying whether a domain is already in compliance.

That said, I wanted to flag it just in case there’s anything that needs attention on our end.

Thanks as always for your help.

Hi Paul
This will be to do with the new API that USPS have that is now fully integrated into the current Advanced Release of the cart. However it has to be noted that it's not possible to rate more than one package at a time so the "pack separately" option isn't available. Also, they say the current API is ok till next year so I wouldn't rush to update.

Will the current PHP 7.8.7 take care of that USPS Web Tools API update?

Just updated an old site to 7.8.8 and am getting this error message below. Shipping to pack products together is selected. Client will login to USPS but how can he continue to use the old API? It's PHP not ASP.

Error: Your Web Tools API service has been disrupted because we have been unable to contact you about migrating to the newest version of our API software. Please fill out the following Migration Feedback Form to begin upgrading and restoring your service: https://forms.osi.office365.us/r/n6njkKcCaz. After completing the form, please contact webtools@usps.gov. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi LadyM
Can you not just change to the new API? The instructions are on the USPS shipping admin page.

For some reason, I thought it was not recommended. I will ask the client.

With the new API you can't have "Pack Separately" but if they are packing the products together it should all work fine.

He's a bit confused now - he used the 'click here' to create a new account but the instructions talk about creating an app etc. Does he really have to do that? It's way over my head.

Are there instructions about what needs to be done?

Hi LadyM
It's only the first 4 steps you need to follow as it says, but one of those is creating the App so yes, you do need to do that.

So what is the app name? The API product? Looks like everything else is optional.

Call it anything you like such as "ectuspsapp" and leave the rest blank. You have to check "Public Access".

The API product is required also. Can that be anything?

Hi LadyM
The only option I had was "Public Access" and you have to check that. What else do you have there?
